Biker Jackets

This type of a jacket is close-fitting leather jacket with zips and studs, often worn by motorcyclists.

In 1928 Irving Schott designed the first motorcycle jacket and sold it for $5.50 at the Harley Davidson store in New York. He named it after his favorite cigar.

The leather itself is windproof and can be lined for additional warmth.

But perhaps most importantly, leather is significantly better at resisting abrasion than wool, cotton, or the typical denim fabric.

So, if a biker does go down, the jacket protects their skin. 

These jackets are made from a variety of animal hides.

The most popular choice for heavy duty jackets is cowhide but buffalo and horse are also used.

Lightweight leather jackets are usually made using hides from sheep, pigs or goats.

Exotic leathers, such as kangaroo are also used.
